Just gardening stuff.
The garden is finally planted, i was worried we were getting it out to late but since we have had a cool spring, hopefully things will grow well. We used mostly plants, with the exception of corn and green beans. i dont have the patience for seeds, i want to see what i planted now not stand by with my fingers crossed hoping the darn things finally make it out of the ground, yep im impatient.
We planted everything from eggplant, to zucchini, yellow squash, cayenne pepper, sweet pepper, corn, green beans, tomatoes, salad cucumbers and its wonderful looking at the plants all lined up in neat little rows. I only wish the ground hadnt been so wet and we could of planted some green onions and mustard leaf which would be about gone by now.
My apple tree's are doing well but my plum tree looks plum pitiful, its got some kind of disease and my husband and i have tried treating it but whatever it is just keeps coming back year and after year and each year its getting worse, good thing i dont really like plums and at least i'll have apples to dry.
Im trying to decide what to do with the tomatoes when they come in. My family does not eat raw tomatoes and right now im terrified of trying to use a pressure cooker, ive heard some horrible stories about people getting scalded and burned bad by them and since one of my greatest fears is getting burned bad, im extremely hesitant to even try it.
Im thinking i may make salsa, it doesnt require pressure cooking and is easy enough to can. I'll also use a few to make my husband fried green tomatoes (yuck!) that should use part of them, i only planted two plants but if they produce as much as normal i'll have them coming out my ears. I'll probably give the majority away like i do most of the time, i just want to make sure i dont waste any, i have this thing about wasted food, every wasted bite could feed someone somewhere.
Im so excited, i love vegetable gardens. Oh and my peonies are finally blooming. Beautiful!
